#38: What Part of You Is Not for Sale?

The Cost of Your Attention

"Attention is life. Guard it as sacred, because where your attention goes, your life follows."

Reclaiming Your Sense of Self

If you feel scattered, drained, or like you’re living on autopilot, this is for you.

You give your time and energy to work, family, and endless demands, yet something feels missing. You scroll when you’re tired, say yes when you mean no, and silence yourself to avoid disapproval. By the end of the day, you wonder: Where did my life go?

You’re not alone. And more importantly, there’s a way back to yourself.

The Cost of Divided Attention

The most valuable thing you have isn’t your money, your labor, or even your knowledge. It’s your attention. Where your attention goes, your life flows.

As the Yoga Sutras remind us: “Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind” (I.2).

Each bargain we make pulls us further from stillness and scatters the mind.

The Power of Mindful Choices

Today, pause before you automatically say yes. Pause before you pick up your phone. Pause before you push past your limits.

Ask yourself: Is this choice costing me my truth?

The Bhagavad Gita offers this encouragement: “On this path no effort is wasted, and there is no failure. Even a little practice of this discipline will protect you from great fear.” (2:40)

Even the smallest pause makes a difference.

Key Takeaways

  • Attention is life itself. Where it flows, your life follows.

  • The bargains you make daily (silence, overwork, distraction) chip away at your presence.

  • You can reclaim your life by pausing, gathering your attention back, and choosing presence over compromise.
